INSTRUCTIONS
Follow this basic step-by-step guide to learn how to use the autopilot:
1. Press F10 to switch to the 2D cockpit - this will be easier to use and learn with. Navigate to the Autopilot Panel which will be at the highest point in the cockpit (but below the windscreen) in the centre.
2. Turn on the Flight Director Switch (F/D) - this appears as a pink cross on the Primary Flight Display. It's used for the aircraft to follow when autopilot is on and if you want to follow it manually. The horizontal line indicates altitude and the vertical line indicates heading.
3. To set the speed, use the dial to turn it to the desired speed (in knots), it usually is indicated as 'IAS' or 'MACH' or both. Then switch on the Auto-throttle switch (A/T ARM) and push in the Speed button.
4. Next, set the heading by also turning the dial to your desired heading and clicking the Heading button (HDG SEL). It will only turn when the Autopilot Master Switch is engaged.
5. Then set your altitude by turning the dial and clicking the Altitude Hold switch (ALT HLD).
6. You can then choose your rate of altitude change with the Vertical Speed Hold Selector (VERT SPEED). Use the dial to change the number. Usually straight after take-off, most commercial aircraft will use 2,500 feet and then slowly move it down to 2,000 feet per minute as they climb.
7. You will then need to turn on the Autopilot Master Switch to get all the components to work - however the speed works independently.
8. If you want to follow a flight plan and not a heading, tap here to learn how to use the GPS. Once the flight plan is loaded in, switch the NAV/GPS switch to GPS and click the Navigational Hold Switch (VOR LOC / NAV HLD). The aircraft will now follow your flight plan.
9. And now the aircraft can fly itself with Speed, Heading/Flight Plan and Altitude.
